If reports are to be believed, Sheldon Adelson, billionaire CEO of the Las Vegas Sands Corporation intends to fund an extensive campaign to oppose online poker. This will include the formation of an anti-online poker group as well.

The report on Washington Post claims that the businessman is opposed to the legalization of online betting. Adelson will position his anti-online poker crusade on the lines of it having a harmful effect on the kids, people with low income as well as anybody who stands a risk of being exploited by it. However, his team has not specified the amount Adelson would be willing to spend to achieve his objective.

These reports have emerged after three states in the US - Nevada, New Jersey and now Delaware have legalized online gambling. As per the Washington Post, Team Adelson will be shortly introduced to the public at large and will comprise of Mayor of Denver, Wellington Webb, former senator Blanche Lincoln, former New York guv George Pataki and several child advocates. This team is expected to speak at various events as well as publish columns articulating their anti-online poker stance.

This announcement comes at a time when several other states in USA are contemplating legalization of online gambling by 2014. Adelson also wants a bill passed that will ban legalization of online gambling by states.

Recently Adelson even sponsored a poll to prove that people in states do not want online gambling to be legalized. However, the output of the poll was not decisive.

Sheldon Adelson has written an op-ed in Forbes magazine where he mounted a scathing attack on Internet gambling by terming it as plague to the society.  The biggest problem he has with legalization is the adverse effect this could have on children.

All these events sure make for an exciting year-end to the fortunes of online gambling industry in probably its biggest market. Year 2014 intends to open with a bang!

How Poker Pros Got Their Nicknames?

What’s in a name?

Well, when it comes to poker and poker players, there is everything to do with their poker names and how they were actually coined.

Doyle Brunson – Texas Dolly

Legend has it that Jimmy Snyder was overheard calling Brunson as “Texas Doyle”. Unfortunately for Brunson, the reporters present there heard it as “Texas Dolly”. Since that very day Texas Dolly has virtually stuck with Brunson despite him having several other names like Godfather or just plain and simple Dolly.

Chris Ferguson – Jesus

No prizes for guessing but its quite evident why Ferguson has been nicknames after…well…. GOD himself. Yes, it’s the hair and that beard that had an eerie similarity with Jesus himself. Although I doubt if Jesus would ever approve of what his namesake does for a living!

Phil Hellmuth – Poker Brat

Don’t know if big Phil is proud of his nickname.  Our guess  - he is! What else could explain the official poker brat merchandise? Good old Phil earned this name for the multiple times he lost his cool at a poker table and all the trash talk that he engages himself in during games. Well, we think it works for the man. All the WSOP bracelets are proof.

Tom Dwan – durrr

As per Dwan he selected durrr has his online nickname just to annoy fellow players. We couldn’t agree more. It definitely goes with his playing style. However, this name has been a rage on the online poker scene and has caught up more than any other name.

Michael Mizrachi – Grinder

We all know what a grinder is. But this name stuck to Mizrachi for the simple reason of his way to move deep into tourneys. Simply put – it was a grind. The Grinder is more than just a nickname now though. It’s a poker brand.

Antonio Esfandiari  - Magician

No, he does not disappear cards on a poker table. Esfandiari was a magician before he turned full time poker professional. We have all seen his cool poker tricks. It’s just magic and we agree.

Daniel Negreanu   - Kid Poker

No poker list can be complete without Daniel. The smiling assassin of the poker world, Negreanu earned himself this name way back in 1988 when he was the youngest player to win the WSOP bracelet. He no longer holds that record and has moved from being kid poker to poker legend.

Phil Laak - The Unibomber

Every time Phil is playing at a table he is wearing his sunglasses, hoodie sweatshirt pulled over his head. This excentric look got him the nickname 'The Unibomber'.

Howard Lederer - The Professor

Jesse May gave this name to Howard our of nowhere. Jesse introduced Howard as 'The Professor of Poker' at Poker Million on the Isle of Man.

EPT10 London: High Rollers Event

The EPT London High Rollers Event is full of surprises.

Our beloved Daniel Negreanu, one of the best profet in poker got busted out of the event and had to re-buy.

Negreanu played against Behbehani and the first showed pocket queens at the end. Behbehani with a straight poker face previously announced Negreanu that he is holding on to deuces. But to Negreanu's surprise, Behbehani rolled him with a flush.

Heh, this things happen in poker, even though Behbehani apologized laughing, Negreanu was not amused.

Daniel Negreanu later posted on social media 'EPT High Roller! Just got slow rolled. Can never quite understand the humor in that. Weak comedy...'

Nevertheless good luck to you all!
